Luciole Family Adventure Cruise

**NEW!!! FAMILY ADVENTURE BARGE CRUISES FOR CHARTER GROUPS**
Welcome to barging, Family Adventure style! Family travel in France has become more popular, as our guests bring all the generations – from grandparents to grandchildren. Keeping these different age groups busy, happy and safe can challenge even the most devoted family, but we do have the perfect answer: The Barge Luciole Family Adventure Charter Cruises. This is a private cruise – JUST for your family – on the twelve passenger Luciole, located on the Canal du Nivernais, just a three hour drive south of Paris.

Activities such as Zip-lining, kayaking, go-karting, and scrambling over the ruins of a Medieval Castle are exciting and easy to enjoy, as they are all organized by our crew. For those who like less action and more culture, there will be excursions offered on some days. As the crew takes care of everything, your family can truly relax – and also enjoy the traditional pleasures of barging – such as gourmet cuisine, cheese and winetasting, or just relaxing on deck. After all, you are in France: A France of fun, adventure, and speed. What a way to create lasting memories! We hope to welcome you to Family Adventure Cruise on the barge Luciole.

The Barge Ladies love to visit Luciole. Our latest cruise took place in October, 2014 when Barge Lady “Communications Manager”, Stephanie Sack, had the pleasure of joining the Luciole for a glorious week of barging throughout Northern Burgundy. The daughter and sister to Barge Ladies Ellen Sack and Caroline Sack Klein, respectively, Stephanie's experience on the Luciole was a smashing success.

The boat cruises on the divinely beautiful Canal du Nivernais between Auxerre and Clamecy, with rustic lock houses, magnificent sweeping views of French landscapes, and breathtakingly grand rock formations as part of the surrounding scenery. Every day the guests took long walks or rode bikes from lock to lock along the wonderful towpath, which soon proved to be one of the highlights of the trip. Tom, our hard-working Matelot, made sure everyone had bikes at a moment's notice, and skillfully helped Captain Francisco navigate the boat. I enjoyed bike rides almost every day, and marveled at the stunning environment -- the sparkling canal, the expanse of blue skies, and the charming lock houses all came together for one of the most pleasurable aspects of the cruise.

During the day, the salon featured four separate dining tables each accommodating four guests, which gave passengers an opportunity to socialize on a more personal level during breakfast and lunch. Come dinner time, those four tables were pushed together for a more formal dinner service, and the salon suddenly alighted with energy and laughter. Wines were flowing, premium cuisine were presented creatively, cheese trays were abundant, and each dessert was even more decadent then the last! Highlights of the menu were the escargots in copious amounts of butter and garlic at lunch, a double salmon dinner entree, and a chocolate caramel brownie dessert that defies description. Locally baked bread accompanied every lunch and dinner to complement that meal's cheese selections. (Clearly my daily bikes rides had a very strategic purpose.) Sadly, all meals came to an end. However, each day the gastronomic games would begin again with a new round of imaginative table settings and artistic cuisine.

The engaging excursions matched the high quality of the food and service. Anna, our friendly tour guide, was chock full of the most interesting facts and insights about the attractions and activities, which included a tour of Bazoches, a preserved chateau with a storied history, a walk through of several landmark churches, and a private wine tasting at Chablis, one of France's most prestigious vineyards. These interesting immersions into the French countryside provided an intimate look at the vibrant history of a fascinating area. Overall, it was one the best vacations I have ever had. I came away with a much better understanding of the barging lifestyle, and I cannot say enough great things about my experiences on the Luciole. In fact, I am already planning a return visit! A true crowd-pleaser, I am confidently recommending the Luciole to Barge Lady guests in 2015, 2016, and beyond!"

Luciole Family Adventure Cruise Guest Book

guests on barge luciole

"How would I sum up my experience on the barge Luciole? Perfect. Tour Guide Andy is wonderful; Captain Francisco is very funny and even let guests drive the boat; Hostesses Emma and Kimberly and Deckhand Tom all made the trip great. The two Hostesses explained the wines and cheeses well, and there to take care of anything we needed. Jade, the Chef, was a fantastic cook, and so friendly and warm. I loved the cuisine, as well and the wines and the cheeses. I especially loved the Chablis winery visit, and my cabin had a comfortable bed and nice amenities.

Barge Lady Ellen was wonderful, and all the pre-trip information provided made for an easy and stress free vacation. I am so glad we stayed at the Mansart, per the Barge Lady's recommendation. It was really nice, and conveniently located. After the cruise, we stayed at the Hotel Londres Eiffel, also recommended by The Barge Lady. Loved it too, and the location was perfect for the last 10 days of our trip. I’ve already recommended Barge Lady Cruises to everyone I’ve met along the way that was interested in a barge trip."

- Barbara Fargo, cruised September, 2016 (repeat Barge Lady guest)

"Superb! The entire crew was a joy to be around. We enjoyed the crew's perfect mix of friendliness and attentiveness. They went above and beyond when it came to providing us with whatever we asked for. Cuisine was top-notch! We enjoyed all of the excursions a lot. We really liked the tree climbing. No, we were well prepared. Cabin and bath were comfortable and had everything we needed. Barge Lady services were very helpful and caring when it came to organizing special diets, outings, etc. Best family vacation ever."

- Frank Marinace, cruised, July 2016

"The Luciole was a 100% delight, and exceeded our expectations. The Captain and crew were wonderful, and the meals and wine were superb. The cabins and bathrooms were crisp and clean wi

th lovely new bedding on beds. The canal was peaceful...we were the only barge…blissful! We may talk with you about a next barge cruise, and wish the Luciole could duplicate itself somewhere else in France! The Luciole has our unqualified praise and appreciation."

- Carol and Fred Levison, cruised May, 2016

"Our cruise on the Luciole was just wonderful. We loved the crew -- friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. Chef Marc was fantastic! The variety of excursions was really great. Tour Guide Andy even took us to the Bailly Caves -- wow! Also we loved being able to walk between locks. This was a special trip with my daughters, and it certainly exceeded my expectations. Thank you for making my dream a reality."

- Marty Beech, cruised May, 2016

"The most stress-free vacation we’ve ever taken. The Luciole crew are all simply lovely people. I like that they dress casually rather than wear uniforms — it feels more like a house party. They mingle as much as they can, making everyone feel very comfortable. I was amazed at the variety of things the Chef could produce. We simply needed to show up at mealtimes to enjoy top-notch cuisine, local wines, and delicious cheeses from all around France. In spite of eating every single thing offered, we walked and biked enough to keep off the extra pounds, so it was a double win! 'The Bar Fairies' replaced empty bottles overnight, and we never went without a glass in our hands. It never felt stingy or as if we shouldn’t have drunk that last bottle of wine! They were happy to bring out another! We were very pleased with the cabins, and the bathrooms was much bigger than I’d anticipated, with nice bath amenities and towels. Barge Lady services were thorough and professional. I love that you regularly cruise with the companies you represent. All the pre-trip information was on-target, and I’ve already recommended your services to my sister!"
