Amaryllis is now wholly owned by Orient Express, operator of luxury travel experiences worldwide.
Since we sailed on the maiden voyage of Amaryllis in 2002, this supremely elegant vessel has continued to epitomize "grand luxe" standards in barging. From antique furniture in the salon, to lamps and chandeliers created by Italian craftsmen to Villeroy and Bosch China: the public areas present a treasure trove of classic European design.
In the huge cabins, however, the accent is on voluptuous comfort. King size beds are piled high with elegant pillows and comforters. Each room has a different color scheme: crimson, bayberry-aqua, pale gold and royal blue. Closets are huge with wonderful lighting and full-length mirrors. The spacious and elegantly tiled baths have every amenity, including double sinks and heated towel bars. Also heated is the pool on deck - a fabulous and unexpected amenity!
Complimenting this luxurious ambiance is the experienced Afloat-in-France/Orient Express operation. The supremely professional crew of six will make you feel at home on several routes in Burgundy and also south into Beaujolais on the River Saone to Lyon, a city known for great restaurants, fun shopping, wonderful sights, such as an amazing museum showcasing silk fabrics. For repeat guests, the fascinating Saone itinerary contrasts beautifully with an all-canal cruise.
We have welcomed many parties onto Amaryllis and hope to revisit it ourselves in 2010.

Burgundy Barge Cruise Itinerary
St. Leger to Lyon on the River Saone
Sunday: Paris to St. LegerWarm Welcome on-board
Let us help you arrange a mid-afternoon train from the Paris Gare de Lyon to Dijon. As you alight, you'll be met on the platform by the Ammaryllis tour guide and chauffeured to the barge moored in St. Leger. Estimated travel time is 45 to 60 minutes. A champagne reception welcomes you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew. Later that evening, enjoy your first dining experience on board.Monday: St. Leger to Rully
Chateau tour and Winetasting
Following a typical French breakfast, the barge cruises to Rully, a quaint village along the Canal du Centre. Today, your guide takes you to Chateau Marguerite de Bourgogne in Couches, dating back to the 11th century for a tour and wine tasting. In the afternoon, guests may elect to stay on board and enjoy the passing scenery, bicycle and keep up with the barge, or walk along the towpath and meet the barge further down the canal.Tuesday: Rully to Chalon-sur-Saone
Hospice and Winetasting in enchanting Beaune
This morning the barge cruises the final section of the Canal du Centre before entering the last and very deep lock which takes you from the canal into the River Saone just north of Chalon-sur-Saone. The scenery changes from the close proximity of the canal banks to the expanse of this beautiful river. Today, you have the option to take lunch off the barge if you wish. This afternoon's visit is to Beaune, capital of the wine region of Burgundy. Tour the famous immaculately preserved Hospice de Beaune, a Medieval hospital, and also enjoy a winetasting in Joseph Drouhin's wine cellar.Wednesday: Chalon-sur-Saone to Macon
Visit a Chateau and ancient Abbeye ruins
This morning the barge cruises towards Macon. Lunch on-board before the afternoon's exursion to the Chateau de Cormatin, noted for its painted, sculpted and gold-leafed interiors from the reign of Louis XIII. If there's time, you also visit the ruins of the Abbey church in Cluny, which in its time was the largest church in western Christendom. Our mooring this evening is Macon, a thriving market town bordering both the Maconnais and the Beaujolais vineyards.Thursday: Macon to Montmerle
Winetasting in Beajolais
In the morning, you take a drive to the Roche de Solutre, a picturesque site with a superb view of Macon, the River Saone and the Pouilly-Fuiss vineyards. Back on board you may wish to relax on deck and watch the passing scenery. After lunch visit the Beaujolais region, known for its vineyards and gastronomy. Your guide has wine tasting on the agenda. There is an optional visit to the Car Museum.Friday: Montmerle to Lyon
Shopping and Sightseeing in Lyon
Today's visit is Lyon the second city of France. Lyon is a cultural, historic, gastronomic, and commercial center, little known outside of France. Dominating the city is the splendidly ornate Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvivre. The standard of Lyon's shopping facilities is renowned for its quality and includes many chic boutiques and a market hall devoted entirely to antiques. Back on board, the chef is preparing a gala dinner for the last evening of your cruise.Saturday: Lyon to Paris
