We were delighted to meet up with Anjodi moored near the old stone bridge in Le Somail. Captain Julian greeted us warmly - He has done a wonderful job for our guests. A quick visit revealed that the salon - an interesting mix of classic wood-paneled walls and snappy red leather - was in perfect condition.

Anjodi retains its nautical character and charm, especially on the inviting wooden deck with its snappy blue and white striped furniture - and the popular Jacuzzi. Inside, the cozy cabins and new brass portholes throughout continue the nautical theme! Anjodi offers well-operated cruises with a wide-ranging program encompassing many types of experiences on the Canal du Midi. Added to Carcassonne and other well-known high points is a visit to the outdoor market at Lezignan; mooring near the stone bridge at picture-perfect Le Somail; and wine tasting in a 17th-century château.

In May, 2008 we welcomed a "girlfriends getaway" group that had a ball on Anjodi! Leader Laurie Miller said: "Our experience exceeded expectations. The Barge Lady recommended ANJODI. Marseillan to Le Somail on the Canal de Midi

Sunday: Montpellier to Marseillan
Welcome Aboard!
From Paris Gare de Lyon, take TGV #6209, depart Paris 11:20 am, arrive Montepllier 2:42 pm. Relax in the cafe until your crew meets you at 4:00 pm and chauffeurs you to Ajodi moored in the Marseillan. (The cost of transfers to/from the cruise route is additional to the cruise fare and must be booked separately.) An alternative meeting point is the Hotel Pullman Antigone in Montpellier only IF you are staying there the night before. Dinner is your first on board meal. Tonight meet your crew and enjoy the first of one of many fabulous dinners!

Monday: Marseillan to Portiragnes
Enchanting Fishing Village
This morning we visit Pezenas, a delightful village, mostly known for its associations with the French playwright Moliere, who is said to have written many plays while staying there. This afternoon we cruise from Marseillan to Portiragnes through the nature reserve of Bagnas with potential sightings of flamingoes and other birds. Dinner aboard.

Tuesday: Portiragnes to Beziers

Winetasting in a Chateau

This morning we cruise to the bottom of the Fonserannes 7 lock flight at Beziers where we continue along the 300 year old tree lined Canal du Midi. After lunch enjoy an informative wine tasting in the 14th Century Chateau de Perdiguier, famed for its 15th century frescoes and Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines Dinner in Beziers at a local auberge.

Wednesday: Beziers to Poilhes

13th Century Cathedrals - great views

This morning we cross the aqueduct over the River Orb and then ascend the 7-lock flight of Fonserannes before reaching the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas. On arrival at the picturesque village of Poilhes we take an excursion out to Minerve, the ancient capital of Minervois, which boasts a 12th Century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1215, its hill-top location affords spectacular views. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete the intriguing picture. Dinner aboard.

Thursday: Poilhes to Argeliers
Narbonne: Food market, Roman ruins, shop and stroll
A morning visit to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy the Archbishop’s Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Return to the barge for a cruise along the shaded canal to Argeliers, stopping off en route at Chateau de Guery, a 500 year old canalside vineyard, for a pre-dinner wine tasting of the full-bodied Corbieres. Friday: Argeliers to Le Somail

Carcassonne - Europe's most complete Medieval city

Morning visit to Carcassonne. Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, this is the most complete medieval fortified city in existence today. With its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, it resisted the many armies that tried to storm this Camelot setting. In the afternoon we cruise along the historic Midi Canal to the delightful village of Le Somail. Captain's Farewell Dinner aboard.

Saturday: Le Somail to Montpellier

A Sad Farewell

After breakfast you will be chauffeured to the Montpellier Train Station in time to board TGV #6208, depart Montpellier 10:28 am, arriving back to the Paris Gare de Lyon 1:48 pm. Or, pick up a rental car at the Montpellier Station for further exploration! We hope to see you on another European Waterways/Go Barging vessel - what about a Burgundy cruise next time?!

This morning’s excursion is to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy a visit to the Archbishop's Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling canal side town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. After lunch we cruise to Beziers via the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, mooring at the top of the flight of 7 locks at Fonserannes followed by the descent of the lock flight to Beziers, crossing the aqueduct over the River Orb. Dinner at a restaurant in Beziers.

Thursday: Beziers to Portiragnes

Winetasting in a Chateau

After breakfast we cruise to Portiragnes where the Canal du Midi is at its closest to the Mediterranean. This afternoon we have an informative visit to Perdiguier, a local chateau, famous for its 15th century frescoes, where the production of wine is explained and the end product can be tasted. Maybe tonight you will enjoy an evening swim in the Med! Dinner aboard.

Friday: Portiragnes to Marseillan

Enchanting Fishing Village

Anjodi sets off through the famous round lock and then the nature reserve of Bagnas, with potential sightings of flamingoes and other birds before heading out onto the inland saltwater lake of Thau, past the oyster beds.
