We love to visit LUCIOLE and were delighted to be aboard in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. In 2010, The Barge Lady's very own Caroline Sack Klein and Creative Director Kelly Weiss had the pleasure of visiting the Luciole. Read about their experience -
Caroline Said, "LUCIOLE is the inspired creation of barging “pioneers” John and Penny Liley. Luciole cruises on the divinely beautiful Canal du Nivernais, cruising between Auxerre and Clamecy. This vessel has a “country French” ambiance: dark green carpet sets off Provençal print fabrics on the casual furnishings, both inside and out. Luciole is known for an extremely personalized on-board atmosphere.

From the moment we arrived on the barge, the crew was constantly ensuring that all guests are comfortable and happy. In the salon during the day, there are four separate dining tables each accommodating 4 guests, which gives passengers an opportunity to socialize on a more personal level. Come dinner time, those 4 tables are pushed together, and the salon is buzzing with energy and laughter. Wine is flowing, divine cuisine is presented creatively, cheese trays are abundant, and an elegant dessert was consumed. Sadly, the meal was over. However, in approximately 12 hours, the games would begin again with a new round of imaginative table settings and artistic cuisine!
The interesting excursions matched the high quality of the food and service. The villages, chateau, markets, and vineyards offer a fantastic way to visit the highlights of the French countryside while being treated like royalty in the comfort of a floating hotel barge. The Luciole was a true crowd pleaser."

Single travelers are always welcome in the well-priced single-occupancy cabins (cozy and adorable) and LUCIOLE remains a top choice for couples and whole-boat charter groups. We consider LUCIOLE value-priced for what it offers.
