We were welcomed on board by owner Glenn Carr. This gorgeous vessel was extensively redecorated in 2007. The wood panelling is the most elegant in all of barging and the fabrics in the salon, dining room and cabins are rich and beautiful. Spacious and all-marble baths star in the cabins. French-inspired decorative touches are everywhere. The phrase "floating petite chateau" comes to mind.
Nenuphar is one of the five meticulously operated and maintained barges in the French Country Waterways fleet. We have either cruised or driven over its entire route - which combines lovely, rural cruising with a location within easy reach of Paris. A top excursion is to the lavishly restored 16th century Renaissance chateau of Ancy-le-Franc - with gorgeous paintings, tapestry and architecture. Most fun was the local market set up at the palace gates the morning we arrived! A second chateau in the adorable town of Tanlay is reached via a moat.
Wine and cuisine star on this route. Included in the cruise price is dinner at the Michelin 3* restaurant La Cote Saint Jacques in Joigny. The Captain will accompany you on this special dinner. A visit to nearby Chablis offers vistas of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, followed by a tasting at a private vintner. Estate-bottled wines compliment each and every on-board meal and represent an opportunity to enjoy and compare. As on all French Country Waterways barges, senior crew add a great deal to the experience.
Think of Nenuphar as your luxurious drifting hotel: You will dine in grand style, take in chateaux, vineyards and towns, and cruise through picturesque rural scenery at the gentlest pace one could desire.

Gurgy to Lezinnes on the Canal du Bourgogne
Sunday: Paris to Gurgy
The Nenuphar's guide will meet you at the Hotel Raphael, Paris (or charter group's hotel as agreed on by the barge). He will escort the transfer from Paris via private coach to the barge's mooring in Gurgy. Champagne Reception and Welcome Dinner on board.
Monday: Gurgy to Sens
Morning cruise to the city of Joigny. Afternoon visit to the Romanesque Abbaye de Pontigny, founded early in the 12th century. In 1164, Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, was given refuge here during his fatal dispute with Henry II. Dinner ashore at the luxurious La Cote Saint-Jacques in Joigny.
Tuesday: Gurgy to Brienon-sur-Armancon
Morning tour of Auxerre, the medieval capital of Lower Burgundy on the Yonne River. Accompanied by Adrienne's guide, tour the cathedral and the historic old quarter. Browse in fine shops and galleries housed in handsome 16th century buildings. Return to the barge for a cruise to the overnight mooring in Brienon-sur-Armancon.
Wednesday: Brienon-sur-Armancon to Charrey
Morning cruise along one of the loveliest sections of the Burgundy canal to Charrey. After lunch drive to the region of Chablis, where a dramatic overlook offers sweeping vistas of the Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. In the village, sample these famous wines at the property of a private vintner.
Thursday: Charrey to Tanlay
Cruise to overnight mooring in Tanlay. After lunch, tour the 17th century Chateau de Tanlay. Inside, see fine furnishings and tapestries, and the Grand Salon decorated with Illusionist paintings from the Fontainebleau School.
Friday: Tanlay to Lezinnes
Morning cruise to the final mooring in Lezinnes. After lunch, visit the 16th century chateau of Ancy-le-Franc, one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Burgundy. Return to the barge for the gala Captain's Dinner on board.
Saturday: Lezinnes to Paris
After breakfast, depart the Nenuphar via private coach for the escorted return to Paris, arriving at the hotel by approximately 12:00 Noon.
