We were welcomed on board by owner Glenn Carr. This gorgeous vessel was extensively redecorated in 2007. The wood paneling is the most elegant in all of barging and the fabrics in the salon, dining room and cabins are rich and beautiful. Spacious and all-marble baths star in the cabins. French-inspired decorative touches are everywhere. The phrase "floating petite chateau" comes to mind.
Nenuphar is one of the five meticulously operated and maintained barges in the French Country Waterways fleet. Wine and cuisine star on this route. Estate-bottled wines compliment each and every on-board meal and represent an opportunity to enjoy and compare. As on all French Country Waterways barges, senior crew add a great deal to the experience.
The route between Pouillenay and Tanlay on the Canal de Bourgogne is divinely beautiful - cruising through fields, forests and wonderful towns and villages. It is rural, chic and interesting - all at the same time - and just a 90-minute drive from Paris. Included in the cruise price was a first-rate dinner at the Michelin-starred Le Relais Bernard Loiseau in Saulieu.
Sightseeing on the route is varied. Tour the Forges de Buffon guided by the current owner, a charming French woman. Renaissance Chateau at Ancy-le-Franc is an outstanding sight. Now owned by a consortium of American investors, much of it has been extensively and gorgeously renovated.
Think of Nenuphar as your luxurious drifting hotel: You will dine in grand style, take in chateaux, vineyards and towns, and cruise through picturesque rural scenery at the gentlest pace one could desire.

Nenuphar Guest Book

"Nenuphar was the trip of a lifetime. Absolutely fantastic! A perfect way to celebrate our 20th anniversary."
- Saul and Jennifer Perloff, cruised October, 2012
"The cruise was superb! We travel a great deal and are quite particular. We found this to be a first rate topnotch experience. The chef, Cyril, is marvelous with both presentation and flavor. Each meal was a feast for all of the senses. The crew was beyond excellent. Anna was an absolutely brilliant Guide.... professional, well-educated in a vast number of subjects: history, culture, the arts, languages, cuisine, wines, bus-driving! She has a lovely sense of humor, is an excellent raconteur and is a delight to be with. We found the group of fellow passengers to be quite congenial. In our cabin, there was plenty of storage and closet space, and the bathroom was perfectly adequate. The queen bed was large enough. We were happy with the barge. It met every expectation. Thank you very much for arranging a very successful week for us; it was our first barge trip and we loved it."
- Justine and Joel Coopersmith, cruised October, 2012
"Our cruise was fabulous. The cabins were perfect, with more storage than expected. Cerile was a four-star chef and the food on board was excellent. The crew was excellent, each one was friendly and more than accommodating . The excursions were great, fun and informative. It was an excellent and unforgettable experience. French Country Waterways knows how to do barges!"
-John and Jeanne May, cruised September 2011
"We had such a great time, the only problem we are having is the experience is ove r and we miss our 'Barge Buddies' terribly! Thank you!"
-Bill Johnson, cruised September 2011
"We loved the cruise! The chef, staff and accommodations were all excellent. All arrangements exceeded our expectations. Your pre-planning and Anna (the captain) were outstanding. We would highly recommend you and the barge trip to others.
Thanks for your help!"
-Joan and Stephen Carter, cruised September 2011
-Gene and Margaret Agnone, 2010
"While we are well traveled, this was one of the best trips we ever experienced. Part of the magic was our friends who joined us, but the crew was outstanding and our accommodations were stupendous."
-Robert and Kathleen Garvey, 2010
"OVER THE TOP in every area. The Nenuphar was spacious, super clean, and comfortable. The crew (everyone of the six) were a delight. The food on board was so good that some of the group's only complaint was that they would have rather had dinner aboard than the dinner at the "3 star". Of course that was ridiculous as they were both over the top. The pace of the trip as just stated with wonderful 2 to 4 hour trips that were filled with much history and knowledge by Captain Glenn. The French countryside
was wonderful and a pleasure to take in."
- Madeline & Dale Treadway, 2010
