Canal du Midi Barge Cruise Itinerary
Sunday: Poilhes
Welcome Aboard!
Richard will meet you at your designated rendezvous and accompany you to the barge where he and Barbara will welcome you with a champagne toast on the sun deck. This will be followed by a short evening cruise to Poilhes. Dinner is served on board with fine wines from the region.
Monday: Poilhes to Argeliers
After a leisurely breakfast of fresh French bread and croissants from the local boulangerie we cruise for an hour or two to Capestang. Here Richard takes you to the Oppidum. This is an old Roman settlement dating back to sixth century BC. The scenery is spectacular; you will see the drained lake with 700 year old pattern and also stop in a number of sleepy villages en route. Back to the barge for lunch and then an afternoon cruise to Argeliers. Take one of the bikes on board for a ride up to the local winery to sample some excellent local wines before dinner.
Tuesday: Argeliers to Ventenac
Following a leisurely breakfast there will be a tour to Minerve. This is the ancient capitol of the Minervois area and there you will see the remains of the 12th century Cathar castle overlooking two deep river gorges. There will be time for a little wine tasting and shopping prior to returning to Sherborne for lunch. In the afternoon we cruise to Ventenac via Le Somail, possibly the most picturesque village on the canal.
Wednesday: Ventenac to Homps
A morning cruise followed by lunch in the shade and visit to Chateau Aiguilloux to sample fine wines. Tonight is Cook's night off. Guests are treated to dinner at a local French restaurant courtesy of Sherborne.
Thursday: Homps to Carcassonne
First thing we go through the double lock at Homps and then stop for breakfast followed by an excursion with Richard to Narbonne. There will be time to visit the Cathedral and cloister and shop at the market. In the afternoon we cruise to Trebes where dinner is served on board.
Friday: Carcassonne
A leisurely breakfast and then a barge cruise into the centre of Carcassonne. Here we enjoy lunch and visit the fortified city of Carcassonne. We return to Sherborne for dinner.
Saturday
Farewell!
Breakfast aboard and then depart.

Guest Book
"Richard and Barbara are the best. We felt welcomed as a part of the family from the first day. The meals were outstanding! Barb was willing to share recipes which allowed us to recreate and share our lovely memories at home."
- Robert and Bonnie Lloyd
"Cruising on the Sherborne is an opportunity to leave behind the fast-paced world most of us know - if only for a brief time. The charming barge decor, the wonderful gourmet meals, the wine-tastings and cheese samplings, the visits to medieval villages and, above all, the warm and accommodating hosts Barbara and Richard, all add up to a truly marvelous excursion. (Did we mention the wine?)"
- Terry and Jeanne Quinn
