Belgium has recently embraced a comprehensive renaissance along its historic canals. Today, these antique inland waterways have been beautifully restored for pleasure cruising, transforming a network for Medieval trade into a contemporary tapestry of leisure and discovery.

At the heart of this revival is the Charming class Delfine, a barge originally built in 1907, and now lovingly reimagined and refurbished as a floating boutique hotel. Her debut 2026 cruise introduces highlights of the Flanders region, sailing between Ghent and Ypres. Hosting just four guests, Delfine provides an intimate, immersive venue to experience Northern Belgium’s cultural treasures, hearty flavors, and evocative landscapes.

Guiding the journey are owner-operators Captain Tim Bull and Hostess Karina Rook, a husband-and-wife team whose warmth and worldliness infuse every detail. Australian by birth, their life together has spanned careers and continents, but it is on Belgium’s revitalized canals where they’ve anchored their passion: welcoming guests to the Delfine with the easy graciousness of seasoned hosts.

Excursions ashore bring Belgium’s layered history and approachable spirit vividly to life. In Ghent, admire Van Eyck’s luminous Adoration of the Mystic Lamb and explore a vibrant street art scene. Pedal along wildflower-lined towpaths into Bruges, where cobblestone streets and Gothic spires beckon. Indulge in confectionery tastings at master chocolatiers, sip bold brews at historic breweries, and crunch into Belgium’s culinary whimsy at the frites museum.
