Hotel Barge Cruise Ratings System

The Barge Lady introduced the barge rating system into the market to help set guest expectations. It is now used throughout the barge industry and is widely accepted as a proper method to rate the vessels. The rating is established mostly by cabin size, decor, and barge amenities, such as hot tubs and open kitchens. Keep in mind that regardless of the barge class, the cuisine and dining experience will be of the highest quality on every barge.

Ultra Deluxe

Ultra-Deluxe vessels have the highest possible degree of spaciousness, including many with King-Bedded cabins as large as hotel rooms; are beautifully decorated, often using fine fabrics and antiques; offer amenities such as hot tub, open chef's kitchen and grand piano; and show an overall commitment to top quality in cuisine, wines and highly personalized service.

There will be spacious cabins, almost always with a choice of Twin or Queen beds; amenities such as hot tub; personalized and charming decor; fabulous cuisine with a variety of wines and highly-trained crew, often the barge owner.

First Class

This is an eclectic category. Cabins will be small but well-designed and with private bath; sometimes choice of Queen bed. Decor is varied, often nautical in ambiance or reflecting the cruising area; delicious meals often accompanied by local wines; and a festive and fun on-board atmosphere.

Boutique Class

A Boutique Class barge is the perfect option for guests more interested in authentic experiences than in on-barge amenities. These barges are operated with two in crew and always offer the opportunity to dine on shore and explore on your own, the idea being to discover French lifestyle in an unregimented way. The vessels are cozy and comfortable, each cabin with an en-suite bath.
