Travel from Pontailler-sur-Saone to St. Leger-sur-Dheune on the River Saone and Canal du Centre
In the afternoon, you will be met by a crew member of the Amaryllis at the designated meeting point. From here, relax as you are chauffeured to the barge, moored in the pretty port of Pontailler-sur-Saone. A traditional champagne welcome and introduction to the crew awaits you, before your first gourmet dinner aboard.
Absorb the beauty of the French countryside on a morning cruise down the River Saone. After lunch, your Tour Guide drives along the scenic Routes des Grands Crus to Clos de Vougeot, where Cistercian monks began making wine in the 12th century. This ancient château is now the headquarters of the celebrated wine society Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and houses an ancient cellar and wine presses from Medieval times. Enjoy a private wine tasting at a local producer before rejoining the barge for drinks and a gourmet dinner.
After breakfast, your Tour Guide introduces Dijon, a charming town brimming with authentic French life. Experience "Les Halles," the lively covered food market; the famous Maille mustard shop; and the Ducal Palace, seat of the great Medieval dukes of Burgundy. Then it’s time to explore the local boutiques before enjoying a casual lunch at a local bistro. Return to Amaryllis for a late-afternoon cruise along the River Saone while enjoying cocktails on deck followed by another epicurean dinner featuring local vintages and produce.
Cruise the last stretch of the River Saone to Chalon-sur-Saône where you can visit the quaint antique shops, stunning cathedral square, and half-timbered buildings. Resume cruising as the barge now enters the Canal du Centre via the Crissey lock. Your Tour Guide then accompanies you to the Chateau de Rully, an estate which has been inhabited by the same family for generations. Meet the current owner, tour the grounds, and and enjoy a winetasting in the castle's ancient kitchen. Dinner this evening is taken ashore at a delightful auberge.
Today’s cruise portion along the Canal du Centre provides ample opportunities for optional bike riding through scenic countryside. Upon mooring, your Tour Guide accompanies you to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Visit the magnificent 15th-century Hotel Dieu, an immaculately restored Medieval hospital that represents both the history of Burgundy and the story of its wine. Then meander around the charming cobblestoned town center and its darling shops before returning to Amaryllis, where Chef is creating another magnificent dinner.
Continue on the peaceful Canal du Centre for a leisurely morning cruise. Relax on deck, walk the towpath, or bicycle into passing villages: The choice is always yours! Today’s excursion is to Château de Chamirey for a private tour of the vineyards, the family home, and wine cellar, followed by a tasting of exquisite wines. Back on board, Chef is busy preparing a farewell gala dinner, which ends your cruise in style. The scenery, vineyards, chateaux, and towns of Burgundy will stay forever in your memories!
Checking out no later than 9:00am, you will be chauffeured to the designated drop off point.
