Gascony’s timeless charm has long enticed discerning Francophile travelers and devoted “foodies” eager to savor its rich and flavorful cuisine.

Still a largely unspoiled corner of France, this enchanting region offers tree-lined canals,  untouched farmlands, and lively villages. Here, the barge Elegance glides along the jade green waters of the gorgeously restored Canal de Garonne.

After the success of his first barge, the 6-guest Esperance, Captain Mathias Gilles presents a fresh concept with Elegance: an homage to the Orient Express and Europe’s glamorous train travel of the 1920s. Onboard, guests are transported into a Gatsby-esque reverie of polished marquetry, gleaming crystal, and a dollop of Jazz-Age decor. Three chic cabins offer Continental comforts. From her stately salon to a spiral staircase to a spacious deck, the Elegance has been invitingly designed for convivial cruises in true French style.

Onboard cuisine revels in Gascony’s legendary abundance, a region where dining and drinking rise to an art form. Imagine foie gras sourced from local farms and prunes luxuriantly simmered in Armagnac until they melt into pure indulgence. Platters of sumptuous farmhouse cheeses are paired with generous pours of the area’s wines and selections from nearby Bordeaux.

Adventures ashore sparkle with Southwestern French flair. Gascony’s exceptional elixirs are poured at a private tasting, introducing the palate to pleasurable discoveries. The pedestrian boulevards of a preserved hilltop village beckon for leisurely browsing.  Seasonal produce and signature specialties tempt at a lively local morning market. Indeed, this emerging and enchanting region rewards the curious with cultural treasures at every turn.
