Chalons-en-Champagne to Chateau Thierry on the Canal Lateral a la Marne and River Marne
In the afternoon, you will be met by a Kir Royale crew member at the designated meeting point. From here, relax as you are chauffeured to the barge, moored in the town of Chalons-en-Champagne. A traditional welcome featuring the Kir Royale cocktail and introduction to the crew awaits you, before your first of many gourmet dinners aboard. Take a dip in the hot tub to end the day!
As Kir Royale gently begins her first cruise, lounge on deck and admire the passing scenery. This afternoon, visit the immersive Pressoria museum to discover the heritage and craftsmanship behind Champagne, finishing with a tasting. Afterwards, take a stroll along the world-famous Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, a grand boulevard lined with the historic cellars of the most celebrated Champagne houses. Return to Kir Royale for cocktails and canapes before tonight's dinner is served onboard.
Enjoy coffee and croissants during this morning's cruise. This afternoon, your Tour Guide introduces Reims Cathedral, the magnificent church where the Kings of France were crowned. Marc Chagall designed the modern stained glass installed in 1974. Afterwards, stroll in the shopping arcades or enjoy a coffee in the town square of Reims. Back onboard, aperitifs and appetizers precede tonight's gourmet dinner.
After a leisurely breakfast, a private champagne tasting and tour at the boutique Grand Cru winery of Frerejean Frères awaits. Meet the people and discover the secrets behind growing the region's pampered grapes. After a gourmet private lunch in the salon of the family domaine, return to the barge for a scenic afternoon cruise. Sip and socialize in the salon or linger over a glass of wine on the foredeck before this evening's delicious dinner onboard.
A late morning visit to La Maison Ayala, a renowned champagne house situated in Aÿ, reveals one of the 17 rare villages classified as Grand Cru in the Champagne region. Tour Ayala's historic cellars before enjoying a private tasting. In the afternoon, a leisurely cruise glides along the meandering River Marne. Tonight's dinner party is served onboard.
A morning cruise brings us to our final mooring at Château-Thierry, a historic riverside town surrounded by vineyards famed for producing some of the region’s most celebrated sparkling wines. A late-afternoon guided excursion visits the battlefield and monument at Château-Thierry, as well as the American cemetery at Belleau Wood, where U.S. forces fought one of World War I’s bloodiest battles. This evening, the Farewell Feast onboard concludes your journey on the Kir Royale in truly sumptuous style.
After breakfast, you will be chauffeured to the designated drop off point.
