Saraphina
France, Canal Du Midi
Cruise Along the Canal du Midi
Owned and operated by Captain Finnegan and Chef Emily Campfens, the Saraphina brings a fresh, youthful approach to barging, as guests are welcomed aboard a charming world of casual living and whimsical flair.
Having met on the canals of France as barge crew on one of the industry’s most luxurious vessels, Finn and Emily offer years of high-end hospitality experience to their lucky guests. Saraphina is a Dutch barge built in 1924, and was lovingly converted in 2007 to a welcoming vessel featuring a “shabby chic” interior, unique to anything else on the canals. Two cabins provide hip havens of contemporary comfort, while the expansive deck and cozy wheelhouse offer plenty of public space for informal socializing.
A flexible and fun itinerary focuses on the region’s many attractions, both obvious and offbeat. Guests can ride the seven locks at Fonserannes near Beziers; browse the niche boutiques and antique shops along the historic streets of renaissance Pezenas; and walk the boulevards of Narbonne to visit historical sites and, best of all, the colorful produce market. Guests who like to cycle will thrill to the Saraphina’s exclusive Dutch bikes.
Chef Emily’s market fresh menus are perfectly paired with the region’s abundant and wonderful wines. As part of the Saraphina’s dynamic dining options, four luncheons and one dinner are taken ashore at locally-owned bistros, offering guests a delicious exploration of the Canal du Midi’s cuisine scene.
The Barge Ladies are pleased to bring the Saraphina into our fleet as the perfect choice for small families of up to four, health-conscious travelers who wish to enjoy lighter gourmet fare, and guests desiring an easygoing yet authentic canal cruise. Adding to the onboard festivities is a canine crew member, Penny. While many guests enjoy her four-legged company, please note her presence is completely optional.
